Threatened — угрожал. Используется, когда кто-то говорит что-то с угрозой. 

 

  1. She giggled nervously as Matt took her hand.

Giggle — это глагол, который описывает легкий, непринужденный смех, часто связанный с волнением, смущением или радостью. Наречие nervously показывает, что смех сопровождается нервозностью или легким волнением.

 

  1. Suddenly, the man snatched my bag and ran.

Snatched — вырвал, схватил резко. Описывает быстрое и резкое действие.

 

  1. She swallowed the last of her breakfast as fast as she could.

Swallowed — проглотила. Подходит для описания еды, когда что-то проглатывают.

 

  1. “I said be quiet!”, the teacher yelled.  

Yelled — закричал, крикнул. Используется для громких приказов или выражения гнева.

 

  1. John grinned cheerfully as he skied down the mountain.

Grinned — широко улыбался. Описывает радостное выражение лица.

 

  1. The strange woman was peering at me from behind a tree.

Peering — вглядывалась. Означает смотреть внимательно или с трудом разглядеть.

 

  1. We stumbled across the dark field, trying not to fall over in the dark.

Stumbled — спотыкались. Описывает неуверенную, неловкую ходьбу.

 

  1. “Shh! Don’t make a sound!”, John whispered.

Whispered — прошептал. Используется для тихого, секретного разговора.

 

  1. I rushed to the shop, determined to get there before it closed.

Rushed — поспешил. Описывает быстрое движение с целью.

Why are you crawling into the classroom, Tom?

Because you told us not to walk into your class late!

 

В шутке ученик буквально воспринимает указание учителя: ему сказали не walk (не ходить) в класс с опозданием, и он решил crawl (ползти), чтобы не нарушать правило. Это создает комический эффект, потому что ученик слишком буквально понимает слова учителя.
