Russia is home to a rich variety of languages spoken across its vast territory. The most widely spoken language is Russian, which is the official language of the country and serves as the main means of communication for over 140 million people. Russian is used in government, education, media, and daily life, making it the unifying language of the diverse peoples of Russia.  

Tatar is one of the largest minority languages in Russia, spoken by around 4 million people primarily in the Republic of Tatarstan and surrounding regions. It belongs to the Turkic language family and has a rich literary tradition. Tatar is recognized as an official language in Tatarstan alongside Russian and is taught in schools and used in local media.

Bashkir, another Turkic language, is spoken by approximately 1.1 million people mainly in the Republic of Bashkortostan. It shares many similarities with Tatar but has its own distinct grammar and vocabulary. Bashkir is also an official language in its republic and is actively promoted through education and cultural programs.

Chechen is a Northeast Caucasian language spoken by about 1.3 million people in the Chechen Republic and parts of Dagestan. It has a complex grammatical structure and is an important part of the Chechen cultural identity. Despite historical challenges, efforts continue to preserve and develop the Chechen language through schools and media.

Chuvash is a Turkic language spoken by about 1 million people in the Chuvash Republic. It is unique among Turkic languages due to its distinct phonetic and lexical features. Chuvash is an official language in the republic and is preserved through cultural institutions and schools.  

Yakut, or Sakha, is spoken by approximately 450,000 people in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) in northeastern Russia. It belongs to the Turkic family and has adapted to the Arctic environment, with vocabulary reflecting the local climate and lifestyle. Yakut is taught in schools and used in local media.

Komi-Zyrian is a Uralic language spoken by around 160,000 people in the Komi Republic. It has several dialects and is used in education and cultural activities. The Komi language is part of the Finno-Ugric group.
