Very specific greetings/endings

• Greeting: «Dear Mr Harris,»
• Ending: «Yours sincerely,»

Advanced/formal vocabulary & set phrases

• «I am writing to apply for the position of…» (standard opening)
• «I would like to gain some valuable experience…» (formal phrasing)
• «I look forward to hearing from you.» (set closing phrase)

Use of full forms  

• «I am 18 years old» (not «I’m»)
• «I have 9 GCSEs» (not «I’ve»)  

Formal linkers

• «For this reason,…» (instead of «So…»)

Passive voice (though minimal in this letter)

• «I am described by my teachers as…» (passive construction)
